We’ve used this two different ways- with the “egg” cover on, like a lamp, or with the cover off and projecting onto the ceiling. Works great and have used it every night since opening the box. This lamp is very cool, and fairly simple to use. The globe that forms the dragon egg is made out of an opaque smooth white plastic, similar to what a 50 gallon water jug or something would be made of, and conducts light well. It can be removed to let just the LEDs shine, but I don't recommend it. I rate this product 4 stars for two reasons: 1. It is USB powered, and no USB wall adapter was included with it, which means you will have to provide your own. 2. There was a minor bit of damage to the unit I received, which is detailed further in, but wasn't very noticeable.I think the easiest way to describe its features of this lamp will be to go through the remote that was included. Each button is clearly marked as to what it does, and it has a decent range, but you have to point the remote directly at the lamp. There is the power button, a reset button to send it back to the default state. There are dimmer buttons to control the brightness of the lights, and it has 10 stages of brightness. There are buttons that change the LEDs to different colors, there are 10 options: mostly red with blue, aqua blue, a lime green and yellow, mostly blue with red, white, dark blue, green, red, and white with other colors mixed in.The center button of this remote sets the lamp to shuffle through the colors, but it only does so on the highest brightness setting, which is a bit disappointing. There is a "laser" button, which turns on or off the lasers that rotate around in the globe. The lasers are on by default. Then there is the "crystal" button which controls the crystal shaped led lights around the base of the lamp. These crystals are pinkish and stick out from the base. They have two settings, bright, dim, and off, which are cycled through using the button. One of the plastic crystal pieces on my lamp arrived broken out of the box, with one of the pieces of it having snapped off, but overall it really wasn't noticeable. The final three buttons control the timer for the lamp, being a 1hr, 3hr, or 6hr timer buttons. The lamp blinks to confirm that the timer has been set, and does actually turn off properly for the 1 and 3 hour settings.Overall, I really like this lamp, especially to use as a nightlight for a room, or as a set piece for a DnD game. I am very satisfied with this. If anything changes, I will update the review.TL/DR: YESSSSSS. Amazing dragon lamp/projector with tons of options for fantasy fans or a chill space.Honestly, I love this Dragon Lamp! It is not perfect, but it is extremely cool and great for a dragon lover or a fan of fantasy. It would make a nice gift, but unfortunately the beautiful gift box has phrasing on it that says, "Hi Darling," and ends with "yours," so it might make giving to someone who is not your "darling" a bit awkward. Otherwise the gift box is quite nice, with gold embossed quotes and colorful photos of the lamp. Let's talk nuts and bolts:The instruction manual is pretty clear, actually, and easy to follow. The remote is well designed and all functions can easily be accessed with it. There is no app. The base is a silver-colored coiled dragon in a great sculpt with pink crystals extending out. You can use the lamp in two ways: with the shade (egg) on for a desk/table lamp, or, with the shade off for a projector. Both aspects are amazing, we usually keep the shade on and enjoy the beautiful colors and patterns. But with the shade off, the lamp projects the same amazing array onto walls and ceilings. In a pretty dark room, with a regular-height ceiling, the projector's output is nice and bright with wide coverage.Using the dragon button in the center of the remote, you switch between static light and "breathing" light. The static option presents you with several color combination options and ten levels of brightness. The light is not static, as the patterns are constantly swirling, but the color/combination stays the same while the lamp is on. In "breathing" mode, the options are different blends between the color combinations. Instead of remaining on one color combination, the lamp transitions between them with various cuts, fades, crossfades, etc. In this mode, the "brightness" control changes the speed of the transitions. Fast is great for a party, slow is great for more mellow endeavors.I need to point out just a couple of minor issues, nothing that would even cause me to knock off a star, but worth mentioning. There is a hum to the motor that is not whisper quiet. It's not obnoxious, but in a quiet space it is noticeable. The crystals, which light up, flicker and fade sometimes, which I think detracts from their look. But you can turn the crystal light off. The eyes do not light up, though it appears they might in some of the photos. I moved it by the crystals and they came out, so not in very securely, but easily replaceable. Oh, and the timer functions are a bit off. The 1-hour setting went off within 10 minutes after an hour, but the 3 hour setting didn't shut off until 3 hours and 45 minutes. Not a huge deal, but may be important to some.I could go on and on, and I have, but there's a lot to say about this awesome lamp. In a nutshell, we love it and can't wait to show it off at the next party.
